FBI: Shoe Bomb Doofus Is Master
of Non-Doofus Disguises
LANGLEY, VA (DPI) - FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III revealed at a press conference
that suspected "Shoe Bomber" Richard Reid is a "master of disguise." According to Mueller,
Reid, indicted last week for allegedly attempting to set off a bomb in his shoe aboard
an airliner, traveled freely between the U.S. and Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Iran by employing
a number or clever disguises. Mueller then furnished to the press a series of
photos taken by prison surveillance cameras of costumes Reid had created in his cell, in
an attempt to get guards to release him. After donning these costumes, made solely from
toilet tissue and pigments obtained by crushing rodents and insects, Reid would
tell guards that they had "the wrong dude" and that he should be set free.
FBI agents serving as guards were not taken in by the clever ruse.
