  Enough

Rating: 0 stars (out of 5)

Undoubtedly there will be a great deal of surprise regarding my reaction to this particular piece of rancid matter that passes as film. After all, it is about a woman who gets revenge on a man. How can I not enjoy that, you may ask. Allow me to elucidate.

Enough is a pathetic, pandering, cheap excuse for a revenge film that has taken the stark violence and sense of womynhood from far better films such as the French classic Baise-moi and turned it into a bad music video.

The film stars Jennifer Lopez (I refuse to refer to her as J-Lo, and have flunked students of mine that do) a woman who is not only an actress but also a singer, and is incredibly mediocre at both. She marries a handsome, rakish Billy Campbell, who beats her. Rather than send him to jail, she decides to hide away from him and assume a new name for her and her daughter. Hollywood's first lesson? "It's better to be a coward than strong. Men dominate. Get used to it."

But alas, the fiend tracks her down repeatedly and doesn't seem to be willing to give up. So instead she takes martial-arts training and decides she is going to kill him. Lesson #2: "If you do decide to be a strong womyn, make sure you get a man to teach you how and then commit a criminal act so you can spend the rest of your life in jail."

Generally speaking, this film is simply another paean to cock dressed up in the odd Dworkinism. There is nothing Feminist about Lopez. She's no womyn ... she's not even a grrrl. She's a hard-bodied sex machine with a slightly butchy haircut who glistens with sex a lot. Rather than expose the very real horrors of domestic abuse, they simply dress her up in shorts (all the better to see her famously enormous posterior in) and a cut-off T-Shirt and feed the "I want to be abused by a womyn" fantasies of so many penis-polishing perverts that watch this kind of crap.

This film has absolutely no redeeming qualities, except that Lopez doesn't sing all that much. What could have been a womyn-friendly cautionary tale about the violence of the cock-bearer instead becomes violent soft-core pornography for masochistic men with a penchant for Latina looks and bad music. Avoid this, my sisters! Once again, you have been warned!
