Probe Movie Review by Preston Fillagre
Bad Company
Impersonation and the inherent internalized integument of identity have
fueled dramas since the times of Aristophanes. In Bad Company this
duality of instantiation gets it exegesis through the byplay between
Anthony Hopkins (certainly looking far more sinister here than he did in
Psycho) and Chris Rock. I am sure wrestling fans will flock to see
their hero, but I was surprised at Mr. Rock's on-screen persona vis-à-vis
his pugilistic histrionics. I am at a loss to explain why this additional
declivity between self-as-product and self-as-actor has not generated more
buzz, and it added a delicious layer of postmodern irony to the
enterprise. I emailed Ebert about it, but some technical problem must have
interfered since I have not received any reply.
