Advice from Strangers
This week's guests: The Candidates for Miss Kansas 2002
Dear Candidates for Miss Kansas 2002:
I was raised to believe that spanking was OK as a means of punishment, but
nowadays it seems like everyone thinks a father who spanks his child is some
sort of abuser. How do you feel about spanking as a form of punishment?
Good Dad in Garden City
Dear Good Dad:
I feel that spanking as a form of punishment is a bad form of punishment,
because I believe that children are our future, and spanking is just a bad
way to teach children what is right and what is wrong. It's only if we can
teach our kids what is right and wrong, without spanking, that we can ensure
that our future remains bright for our children in the future. Thank you
very much!

Dear Candidates for Miss Kansas 2002:
With so much craziness in the world, I'm afraid to travel! I used to take
my family to Wichita, even to Topeka some times, but now I'd just as soon stay
away from the city. How can I entertain my family without all the worry?
Scared in Sedgewick
Dear Scared:
I grew up spending my whole life in the great state of Kansas, and let me
tell you, there's lots to do. I remember as a kid just spending time
fishing, swimming and playing in the beautiful lakes, going to our local
festivals, and enjoying the delicious food! So with a little creativity,
you can go, like, camping, and fishing, and just sit out under the night sky
looking at the beautiful stars in the sky. Kansas has so much to offer, if
you just get out and find it, and enjoy the beautiful [time limit]
Candy Jo Hopswitch, Miss Northeast 2002
Dear Candidates for Miss Kansas 2002:
Do you have any words for a new dad who wants to see his daughter grow up to
be an upstanding citizen?
New Bundle of Joy in New Albany
Dear New Bundle:
Today is never been, um, better to be a girl in the good old U. S. of A! For
a new young girl I would... say.... that you should teach her good values.
And strong values, because there's nothing a young woman can't accomplish!
And I'm living proof. I've overcome so many things to be here today, and
I'm just so glad to live in such a great country and to have such a loving
and happy, and loving, family. So you should tell her that as long as she
remains true to her... true values, there's nothing a young woman can't accomplish,
and overcome eating disorders and whatnot like me. Thank you very much!
