Suburban Cops Show to Debut This Fall on Fox
HOLLYWOOD (DPI) - With fewer high-speed chases to film and a drastic
drop in shirtless drunks beating
their wives, Fox has taken to the
streets of suburbia for its new show this fall. The pilot of Suburban
Cops features the men and women of the Bedford, Ind., police department
nabbing minivans going 39 mph in a 35-mph zone, giving warnings to drivers
with one headlight and catching teens
making out behind the Pizza Hut. One officer teaches a second-grade class
how to dial 9-1-1, and McGruff the Crime Dog makes a special
appearance. The show features state-of-the-art technology so the viewer can
be inside the patrol car as it goes through the car wash and then circles
the mall in search of loiterers. The highlight of the episode shows Capt.
Mike Tanner ejecting an unruly attendee from the "Music in the Park" event,
then enjoying an impromptu dance with a spirited senior citizen nearby. Fox
seems confident that with the popularity of other "reality" television, the
public is sure to love seeing officers doing everything from filling out
forms in triplicate to checking out false alarms on home security systems.
Promotional spots for the new show will have the slogan, "If you're not
home in time to watch Suburban Cops, you're breaking curfew."
