Disney's Sleeping Beauty Cancelled;
Snoozing Princess Failed to Capture Young Viewers

BURBANK, CA (DPI) - Walt Disney Studios announced that their latest offering, Sleeping Beauty: The Animated Series, is being shelved after a single episode. In a year marred by massive creative layoffs, limited budgets, and national tragedy, Beauty still emerged as one of the strangest ideas ever conceived.

"You'd think there would be lots of things you could do with a sleeping princess," said one recently-fired executive on condition of anonymity, "but those options get very limited once you factor in the network censors."

Even the wise, acerbic ramblings of Needleprick (David Ogden Stiers) couldn't save Sleeping Beauty: the Animated Series from eternal slumber.
"There wasn't very much they could do," added David Ogden Stiers, who voiced the advice-giving Needleprick. "She falls asleep through some spell or vitamin deficiency and a prince kisses her. That's about it. I still can't believe I signed up for this."

Michael Eisner offered, "It's been a difficult year for everyone. The upshot is there are still plenty of movies that remain unfranchised and we will eventually get to all of them."

Disney's Bambi II: The Revenge is slated to premiere in January on ABC.
